Equine euthanasia is an art form and a very different experience for most practitioners compared to small animal euthanasia. The fundamentals of the appointment are the same: gentle death, reduced anxiety and stress, and pain-free, but the techniques and how we achieve euthanasia in the little ones are unique. Equine practitioners comfortable with gently laying down a horse often feel unprepared to work with smaller-veined species.
In this laboratory, you will practice the 5 most common injection techniques for small animals: intravenous, intracardiac, intrahepatic, intrarenal, and intraperitoneal. You will gain confidence performing euthanasia in a variety of species and increase the odds of successful euthanasia the first time, while reducing those challenging situations. The laboratory also presents information on memorialization and building a mobile euthanasia kit. Want to be better at small animal euthanasia? This is the perfect opportunity.
