5K Fun Run & Exercise Classes

Regular exercise is not only good for the body but also for career longevity, which is important for those in a physically demanding occupation such as equine veterinarian. As part of the “AAEP Healthy Practice: Wellness for work, well-being for life” initiative, various group exercise options will be offered during the convention to help you stay focused and feeling well.
AAEP River City 5K Fun Run
Sunday, November 19, 7:00-8:30 a.m., $30
Pack your running shoes and enjoy a fun and educational 5K running tour through the heart of downtown San Antonio. At 15 landmark stops, including the Alamo, running guides will share interesting and historical facts about the rich history and culture of the downtown area. The group-oriented run is suitable for runners of all abilities—the pace is an 8- to 9-minute mile, and the longest distance between landmarks is a half-mile.
Runners will meet in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt at 6:45 a.m. The $30 fee includes a t-shirt, sport bag and access to photos taken throughout the tour by your guide. Register here.
INSANITY®, CrossFit and Yoga Fitness Classes
Sunday, November 19, 6:30-7:00 a.m.
Monday, November 20, 6:30-7:00 a.m.
Awaken your body at morning wellness classes for all fitness levels. INSANITY combines cardio and plyometric drills with intervals of strength, power, resistance and core training. Exercises will feature multiple intensity options and be led by certified INSANITY instructor and AAEP member Dr. Jeff Hall. Workout clothes and shoes recommended; water and towel provided.
AAEP member Dr. Torrie Maxwell will lead attendees in CrossFit, which features constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. Workout clothes and shoes recommended; water and towel provided.
Yoga uses physical postures to increase strength and flexibility while promoting emotional stability and mental clarity. Yoga leggings or shorts recommended; yoga mat provided.
